Winner of the GO Team of the Year Award – UK Local Authorities

February 2015 saw Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar (my own team) win the GO UK Local Government Team of the Year Award!

Team working is pivotal to the success of public procurement, and the GO Team of the Year Award recognises the power and potential of a focused and unified approach to procurement initiatives.

This Award recognises communication, collaboration and a collective determination to deliver excellence in public services.

Recognition is given based on the accomplishments of the team in relation to its size and the complexity of its procurement activities.

Buoyed up by the positive response I’d received to my poem at the Scottish awards I took the opportunity to send a message about the opportunities we have in UK public procurement through another little piece of verse:

Where there are contracts, may we bring savings;
Where there are logistics, let’s make them lean;
Where there are clauses, let’s include community benefits;
Where there are supply chain, may they be green.
Where there are suppliers, let’s foster innovation;
Where there are workforces, let their treatment be fair; and
Where there is excellence, let’s bring on celebrations
As there’s loads of great practice for all of us to share.
